St. Augustine wrote that one who sings prays twice. Music is one of the single most important elements of the liturgy. However, the music minister is not a performer, but a servant, encouraging and leading the people of God in song. Music Ministers must have a love of music and the ability to minister music to others. Regular commitment of time, working as part of a group, encouraging the assembly to participate, learning, and having fun are all important components of the Music Ministry at St. Albert Parish

New Technology

music-ministry1St Albert Parish's music ministry is currently reaping the benefits of a sophisticated new Audio/Visual system that allows song lyrics and the new mass translations to be projected throughout Mass. This new technology has resulted in more singing from our congregation and a new volunteer opportunity for those interested in putting together powerpoints and running the slideshow. Please contact the parish office, or Serena Shaw, if you are interested in becoming involved.

Music Ministry Groups

There are several different groups in our parish who serve regularly each month. Each group has independence in choosing their own music and this has allowed different styles of music to flourish throughout the parish. There are also many times throughout the year when music ministry groups join together to serve for special celebrations, like the annual pilgrimage, penitential services, Holy Week Masses, and our special Jubilee celebrations in 2011.

Groups currently serving at St Albert Parish:

  • Alive – band with multiple instruments and singers – Sunday 11am Masses
  • Celebration – choir with 3-part harmony, percussion, and piano – Sunday 9am and 11am Masses
  • Joyful Singers – choir with harmonies, piano/organ, and guitar – Saturday 5pm Masses
  • Mission Hill – large choir with harmonies and piano – Sunday 9am Masses
  • New Life – choir with guitar and piano – Saturday 5pm and Sunday 9am Masses
  • Kyle and Co. (Name TBA!) - Band with piano, guitar, bass, and mandolin/other instruments – Saturday 5pm Masses.

ALL of these groups are currently accepting new members – if you are interested in singing or playing with any of these music ministry groups, email Serena Shaw at the parish office or simply approach the musicians after Mass.

Funerals and Weddings

St. Albert Parish can provide special music for funerals/prayer services and wedding celebrations. We can recommend an organist/pianist and singer for these celebrations and we can also help with choosing appropriate music. If you have other additional requests, we will do our best to facilitate them.
